Application of acrylic, urethane, silicone, and UV conformal coating materials. Material applications such as staking, underfill, gasketing, potting and encapsulation.
Upon request, assemblies can be processed in a 24 hour window.
Our sole focus is the application of materials to PCB assemblies. Rapid has several degreed process engineers on staff that consult with customers throughout the development cycle of a PCB assembly.
Rapid has 2 fully automated conformal coating lines that provide the necessary thruput to process high volume jobs. Our team of engineers works closely with the customer to understand product requirements and release dates.
Rapid specializes in the automation of the application of conformal coating materials. We have standardized our platform with PVA conformal coating work cells. Standardization of the coating provides the capability to seamlessly transfer product to available work cells.
Rapid utilizes 2 manual spray booths, one is dedicated to silicone specific products.
100% of PCB assemblies coated by Rapid are inspected under UV lamps for defects. Rapid is currently evaluating Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) for conformal coating with the installation of a new AOI system in the spring of 2023

While there are many types of conformal coatings to choose from, they can be categorized as either silicone, acrylic, or urethane. Each one has its own strengths and weaknesses and at Rapid, we have dedicated experts that can help find the right coating for you.
Silicone coatings are often used as a sealant against corrosive and unfavorable environments. The innate nature of silicone makes it the perfect barrier against a variety of environmental conditions including humidity, temperature, sea-spray, and chemical exposure. Although silicon coatings do not exhibit anti-abrasive properties, their rubber-like characteristic provides excellent vibrational resistance and flexibility.
Acrylic coatings are often used as a good overall protectant. They are easy to work with, provide good protection, and are economical to use. They have good abrasion resistance, high dielectric strength, and are resistant to environmental factors such as temperature and humidity. Unfortunately, acrylic coatings are sensitive to solvents and are not optimal when exposed to chemically corrosive environments.
Urethane coatings are in many ways the gold standard when it comes to conformal coatings. They are often used for aerospace applications and are resistant to most things. They exhibit superior chemical, environmental, and abrasion resistance as well as good flexibility. In addition they can be thinned to achieve a specific film thickness and can serve in a wide range of temperatures.
Our automated process pays special attention to the care and handling of our product. All objects within our manufacturing floor are ESD safe, and all desks, tables, and operators are always grounded. In addition, our automated process minimizes the risk for any damage and defects that may occur.
Our technicians and operators are trained to adhere to the stands of ISO:9001:2015, IPC-A-160, J-STD-001 and IPC-CC-830. Our repair and rework are held to IPC-7711 and IPC 7721 standards. Our trained quality operators share over 30 years of conformal coating inspection experience and work diligently to ensure the best possible quality.
